Due to the rapid uptick in Covid-19 cases in the area, we will be requiring students with possible symptoms of Covid-19 to provide a negative Covid-19 test result prior to reentry to school. If you refuse to get your child tested for Covid-19 when they exhibit symptoms, they will not be able to attend school for 10 days. This will be required regardless of vaccination status. We are now seeing students test positive for Covid-19 with symptoms as mild as just having the sniffles. As a reminder, please do NOT send your child to school if they are sick or have symptoms of Covid-19.
We have had some questions regarding current quarantine procedures. The current procedures are as follows:
- If a student or staff member is exposed and they are vaccinated, no quarantine is required unless symptoms are present in the exposed student or staff member.
- If a student or staff member is exposed and they are unvaccinated, a 10-day quarantine is required of the exposed student or staff member.
- If a student or staff member is exposed by someone living in the same household, the unvaccinated, exposed student or staff member must quarantine for 20 days.
These are the current PED quarantine guidelines and they are subject to change. Please remember, we are guided by PED and not the CDC, so if the CDC changes guidance, we are still required to go by PED’s direction, which may or may not align with the current CDC guidance.
We expect to have the “Test-to-Stay” program up and running in the next several weeks. This will allow us to test students on-site so they may remain in school if exposed, as long as they provide a negative test result on day 1, 3 and 5.
Additional information can be found on PED’s website: https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/back-to-school-guidance/
Please also remember to send a copy of your child’s vaccination card to the school if/when they become fully vaccinated or boosted for Covid-19.
Thank you for your continued support!
